Gunner-Special Needs

Could use your help with medical care.

3-2-07 UPDATE:  Gunner is waiting for a new home to call his own.  He is filling out very nicely and doing wonderful on his new diet.  Please see updated pics.

Gunner10.jpg    Gunner9.jpg

1-30-07 UPDATE:  Gunner is ready for his new home.  He has turned into one very playful boy.  He loves his toys and wants nothing more than for you to play with him.  He is becoming one very good looking guy, he is filling out and his special diet certainly agrees with him.

1-5-07 UPDATE:  Gunner came home from the hospital 1-2-07 and is doing very well.  He has gotten his playfullness back and is loving every minute of laying on the couch.  He will be a great addition to his new family.

12-28-06 UPDATE:  Gunner was taken into the hospital today and after extensive testing he was determined to have Pancreatitis.  He is currently on IV's for the next few days and is being fed the same way.  He is doing well and should be able to come home 1-2-06.  He will have to be on a special diet for the rest of his life with no outside foods or treats being added to his diet.  The vet cannot be totally sure it will not reoccur, but it is very treatable and manageable.

Gunner3.jpg    Gunner6.jpg

We have Gunner listed as a senior male, we are unsure of his exact age because of the condition he is in. Malnutrition can age a dog well beyond their years. We estimate he is between 5-8. He is a very loveable boy who came from the same shelter as Harmony. Everyone worked very hard to get Gunner into rescue and transporting across the state. He is certainly enjoying food and a nice bed to lay his head. He has received his vaccines and is heartworm negative but being treated for several different parasites. He must obtain a healthier level before he can be neutered. We will post more as we learn, currently we are trying to get his hunger appeased.

Adoption Donation: None to the right home that will be able to control his pancreatitis and diet.

Rocka B

RockaB RockaB RockaB

Rocka B is new to the rescue program.  He is a beautiful flashy fawn boy of 1-2 years old.  He was surrendered to a high kill shelter here in KY.  He appears to be house trained, gets along very well with other dogs of both genders.  Plays very well with all.  He is a big boy with a very sweet temperment.  He is not a big jumper and is rather laid back for one so young.  He is a true velcro boxer boy, he will follow you everywhere.  Not much has been done for him in the obedience area but he is willing to learn and doesn't get into much mischief.  He does hate being crated and we are working on that issue.  He is extremely loveable and cuddly.  He was very scared to go through doorways to come inside the house the first couple days but just follows the others in and out now.  He is learning very quickly, except for the crate.  He will make someone a wonderful companion.

Deisel Deisel

Deisel is a little over a year old and is becoming quite a wonderful dog!  He is learning basic commands and knows "sit" the best.  He is very sweet and wiggles more than any other boxer I've ever known.  He sleeps one his bed beside me every single night and does not get up until I do. He does not have any accidents in the house and does not chew on anything other than his toys. Some of the time he forgets to share with his foster brother and sister and can be grumpy, especially with bones, but is fine when corrected.  He really is a lovable guy that needs a family to love him forever! Please give Deisel a home soon!

Toby Toby2

Hello! My name is Toby. I was rescued a day before I was to be put down. I am so thankful to be out of that place! When my foster family got me I was covered in open wounds and was so itchy! My foster family took me straight to the vet and I got lots of medicine. I am starting to feel a whole lot better and can't wait for my coat to look better. I'm about 5 or 6 years old, but have lots of energy! I love to go on walks and I have not had any accidents in my new home. I don't like to be left alone in the house so I would do best in a family that has another dog. I get along great with other dogs and have never met a stranger. I'm a very happy and wiggly guy who just wants a family of my own. Please consider adopting me into your family.

Love, Toby.

He's a great neutered boy who is house trained, crate trained, and knows basic commands. And a big feller he is at 90lbs. He is up to date on all shots, interceptor, and frontline. He gets along well with other dogs and cats. I have an invisible fence that I don't even use because he is so loyal and minds very well. He walks on a lead very well. I have often taken him hiking and to play fetch in big open areas.  He has a lot of puppy in him yet at 20 months old. As anyone who is familiar with boxers he has a enormous heart and is very loyal and eager to pleaseMore will be posted as we learn about Happy Jack.

Hoss:  Adopted

Hoss  Hoss  Hoss

Hello Potential Loving Parent,

I'm Hoss, an 9-10 year old flashy fawn gentleman.  Flashy fawn just means that I have quite a bit of white on and around my face.  I also have white 'socks' on each of my feet.  I'm truly a lover, I enjoy walks and rawhides, but mostly I like to be petted and loved on.  Since my foster mom first got me I've gained a little weight, but still need to gain about 10 or 15 more lbs.  I'm a very big boy, but am truly a gentleman.  My perfect forever home would be one that would love me and give me lots of attention, and without kitties as I do love chasing them and will knock whatever is in my way down to catch them.
Waiting Patiently for my Forever Home,  Hoss

Adoption Donation: None, we are looking for the perfect home for Hoss to spend the rest in his life in love and comfort.

Cash and Kali are 6 year old brother and sister.  They are wanting to stay together if possible.  They are looking for a home that will want the both of them.  They are fully vetted, spayed and neutered.  They have been around children but would prefer a home without toddlers because of their size and playfullness.  They are housetrained and crate trained.  Please consider giving both a good loving home.  We will post more about them as we learn.

Franklin

Franklin

Hi,  I am Franklin and I am 7 years old.  I am an all around great boy.  I am housebroke and crate trained, although I don’t need to be crated.  I get along great with all dogs, both large and small.  I love to play “boxer style” but also enjoy lounging around the house.  KIDS…I love kids.  I like to play rough with the big kids but I can also be gentle with the little ones.  What more could you ask for, I am truly the perfect dog.

Dudley   Dudley

9-2-08 Update:  Dudley is a little possessive of his toys and will do best in a home with older children.

My name is Dudley and I am 5 or 6 years old. I was scheduled to die at the shelter I was staying at, my foster mom called about me the day before I my life was to end.  I was sick and since I’m not a young man anymore no one was interested in me.  After a few weeks with my foster family and a visit to the vet, I am 100% again.  I am ready to find my forever family who will not abandon me where I will end up in a shelter to die. I am fully housebroken and crate trained…although I don’t really need to be crated.  I am good with other large dogs but I haven’t had a chance to see how I am with small dogs.   My foster mom’s kids really like me and I enjoy playing with them.  They like to play with my ears and my lips and I don’t seem to mind since I enjoy the attention.  My favorite thing to do is carry around a rubber squeaky toy.  I carry it all day, even when I am not playing with it.  Of course I sleep with my squeaky toy too.  If I temporarily misplace it, I run around looking until I find where I left it.  Do you have room in your home for this gentle giant nicknamed “Dolittle”?

Ziggy4.jpgI am a young 12 month old deaf baby. I do have my natural tail which is quite obvious in my pics. I am not quite crate trained yet, I will go in but will talk for awhile, not bark but I am a talker. I am learning my hand commands from my foster mom, she is a good teacher, but I am just all about wanting to play with the other kids right now. I am really enjoying my foster home and all the others I get to play with. I am very good with other dogs, they just need to be playful. I am also housetrained.

Tyson  Tyson

11.3.08 Update:  Tyson was recently adopted and returned because he did not get along with the cat in the home.  We believe his forever home should not have cats or small dogs.  Other than that, Tyson is a sweet boy and will make a good addition to the right home.  He is good with kids and other large dogs.  He will continue his treatment for Demodex and is improving everyday.  During this time, Tyson was also renamed Cash and is responding well to his new name.  We will leave him listed as Tyson on the website since we currently have another male named Cash.  Here is what his foster mom has to say about him....

"This boxer is the best boxer, he just doesn't get along with small animals such as my cat and I can't get rid of her or else I would keep him. He sleeps with me in my bed at night and is very well behaved. He is good around my 2 year old and other children. He barely barks and is just a sweet lovable guy. He would make a great dog for a good family to adopt. I am going to keep him till you can place him in a good home. I love him and hate that he wants to eat my cat but there is nothing I can do about that."

Hi! My name is Tyson. Check out my video at http://www.petfinder.org. I'm the one with the brown collar. I just love playing with Bricks. We're both pretty ichy right now, as you can tell. Don't let my appearance discourage you. I'm going to be a beautiful boy once my fur grows back. It's not my fault I was discarded by my owner. My foster mom is taking great care of me. I feel better already! Tyson is a white check boy found as a stray running around with Bricks. We believe they might be brothers, but are unsure, as the owner(s) never came to claim them. They both have a severe case of Demodex, which is being treated. They will make a full recovery and then be neutered and caught up on shots. We will update their pictures as they recover. The boys are new to rescue, so we don't know much about them yet. We do know they are young, probably less than two years old and are full of energy. They would play with each other all day if you would let them. You can tell they will be beautiful boys when they are healed.

9-4-07 Update:  These 2 pics were after his first bath.  He seems to be improving daily in health.  We have had the tumor removed and will be posting more pics during his recoup time.

Newbie.JPG

9-4-07  Clyde has had the large tumor removed and is doing very well.

8-28-07: Our vet Dr. Swagert named him Clyde after one of her older relatives which fits this 10 yr old senior boy perfectly.  We have found out he is Heartworm positive but at his age Dr. Swagert suggests not treating him for it.

This pitiful sweet tempered boy just came into the rescue program 8-26-07 from one of our KY shelters.  He is a medical mess as his shelter picture shows.  We would like to give him the chance to live a normal healthy life, but need your help to do so.  We have not given him a name yet but will shortly.  He will be seen today by our vet to determine what can be done and what treatment procedures to follow.  There is a possibility that he is also deaf.  We will be posting new pictures as he improves with time.

Adoption Donation: Not yet available - Pending vet treatment & surgery.

4-3-08 UPDATE:  Barker has decided he doesn't want a home with another male dog.  He does well with females and is a very playful guy.  He prefers to share his home with ladies of the furry type.

Barker is a beautiful white boxer boy of approximately 15-18 months old.  He loves being by your side and watching everything you do.  He came in from a high kill shelter covered in fleas and ticks.  He is fully vetted now and starting to look beautiful again.  He would do best as an only dog, but does love to play with the non-dominate females and the puppies.  He doesn't like dominate male or female dogs.  Cats are unknown as of yet.  He could use an obedience class to teach him a little better manners.  He appears to be housetrained and is etremely loving.  He rides fairly well in a car and is finding out about toys.
