MarleyHickingTrip.jpg

7-3-08 Update:  Hi! It's me, Marley. There is now a video of me that you should watch on http://www.petfinder.org. See, even though I am blind, I still know where I'm going and will come right to you. You can also see how playful I still am. This disability hasn't slowed me down one bit! I'm extremely loving too. I like taking long walks, sunbathing in the yard or just laying beside you as you watch T.V. My mom says I'm very obedient and well-behaved. I think I'm about 4 years old now. Not that I don't love my foster mom, but it sure would be great to have a permanent family. I've been in rescue for over a year. People get discouraged by my eye problem when they see me in pictures, but if you meet me in person, you will see that I am a beautiful fawn boy who is in great shape physically as well as mentally. I don't have any other medical problems and I get along with all people and critters, which you won't find too often. Won't you be my new mommy or daddy? I promise not to disappoint you. Love, Marley

Marley came in from a high kill shelter in rural Kentucky 2-2-07 where he was picked up as a stray.  He has a lot of scars and signs of multiple dog bite wounds from when the shelter picked him up.  He would have been one of the first to be euthanized for he has extensive eye problems the shelter cannot afford to correct that we are going to get addressed.  One of his eyes has been ripped and the other is very swollen from possible damage.  He is unable to see out of the ripped eye and may have very little sight in the swollen one, or at least we are praying it is just swollen and that it can be saved.  The one eye will have to be removed and the eyelid stitched shut to cut down chances of infections.  We hope to be able to save the other.  Marley is a beautiful cropped and docked fawn boy of about 2-3 years old.  He is showing us that he is extremely smart.  Overnight he has learned that when the bell rings on the back door that means potty break and will run to the back door to be let out.  He appears to be fully housetrained, gets along very well with the other dogs in the household and has already learned the layout of the house and is not running into things.  He walks extemely well on lead and puts one paw out front to feel his way.  He is very loveable, gentle, and does like to play with toys.  The ladies from the shelter had 3 toys they got him and he is having a ball with them. Thank you ladies for your help in saving him, he will make his new family an exceptional boy.  We will post more about Marley as he progresses.

Adoption Donation: None for the right home that will be willing to see to his special needs.

Ziggy1.jpg Ziggy2.jpg Ziggy3.jpg

Ziggy4.jpgI am a young 12 month old deaf baby. I do have my natural tail which is quite obvious in my pics. I am not quite crate trained yet, I will go in but will talk for awhile, not bark but I am a talker. I am learning my hand commands from my foster mom, she is a good teacher, but I am just all about wanting to play with the other kids right now. I am really enjoying my foster home and all the others I get to play with. I am very good with other dogs, they just need to be playful. I am also housetrained.

Benny is a 2 year old fawn boy.  He loves to play and clown around.  He is an active boy who loves to go on walks but likes nothing better than to cuddle on the couch with you.  He knows sit, shake and is learning to come on command.  He is housetrained and crate trained.  Just look at this handsome winning face, what a ham.  He is fully vetted and waiting on his new family to love him.

Adoption Donation: $225.00

Copper

Copper   Copper   Copper

Copper is a wonderful older guy of about 8-9 years old.  He is a very happy guy who ended up in a high kill shelter through no fault of his own.  He is fully vetted and looking for his new home.  He gets along well with other dogs, cats are unknown.  He just loves everyone and would make someone a fabulous new family member.

Adoption Donation:  $ None, we would like to find Copper his new family for LIFE.  At his age he deserves this.

Look at how beautiful and healthy Brutus looks now, 4-10-08.

New Pics 4-2-08

Brutus8.jpg  Brutus2.jpg

Brutus4.jpg  Brutus7.jpg

4.2.08 Brutus has really done well with his socialization the past few months. He has done extremely well with both male and female foster siblings. Once Brutus realizes the new sibling is not going to hurt him or ‘his people’ he relaxes and begins to play. Within 24 hours of being introduced to a new sibling he is playing and cuddling with them. He has displayed an extreme amount of patience with his current foster brother who is still all puppy and likes to nibble on Brutus’ ears and lay on top of him on the couch.

12.27.07 We have learned this past weekend that Brutus would prefer to be the only dog in the household or will need a few days of socialization with other dogs. He would not do well with other dominate dogs. He is extremely playful and tends to play rough; though he is able to calm down when told. We have also learned, over the holidays, that Brutus takes about three days to become comfortable and not rambunctious in new surroundings. He continues to be loveable and affectionate. He has done well with the new people he has come in contact with over the holidays.

12.10.07 Brutus has been with us for about 2 weeks now. He is a 2 year old male boxer with natural ears and a docked tail. He is just now getting over Kennel Cough and we are beginning to see his personality. He was also really thin when he came to us, but has a healthy appetite and is putting on some much needed weight. He loves to play and has lost of energy. Sometimes he gets a little rough when he plays and has to be reminded to settle down. He is very strong and strong-willed so he could benefit from some obedience training. Due to his strength, dominate personality and roughness, at times, he would probably do best in a home without small children. He’s extremely affectionate and loves to be next to you at all times. He loves to cuddle and will let you know if he feels he is not getting enough lovin’. He is housetrained and does well when left alone in the house. He got along well with his foster brother before his brother was adopted and ignores the furry friends next door. We, unfortunately, do not know how he is around cats.

Tank Brindle Pup

Tank  Tank

Hey everybody, I am Tank, yep the name suits me just fine.  I am a beautiful flashy brindle boy of 6-7 months old.  I am all puppy.  I am playful, energetic, and full of suprises.  Thats me Tank.  I am learing all about the housetraining stuff, the crate training stuff that keeps me safe when your not home.  My foster mom has started me on what is called my basic commands, I seem to be a quick learner and she seems to think I may be getting a handle on it.  I get along very well with all dogs, people, anyone that will play with me.  Because of my size and strength I would most likely do well in a home with children over the age of 7, after all I am just a young playful pup and don't realize my size.  The nice people that took me in when I was homeless will be posting more as they learn about me.

Max - Blind-Pending

Special Needs

Max  Max

Max Update and new pics

Does anybody want to play?  I LOVE to play!  Wrestling, chasing, and playing with toys are all my favorites.   I have no idea that I am blind or any different from the other dogs.   I assure you I am not a handicapped dog in any way. Sometimes I run into things, but for the most part I know how to avoid the obstacles inside and outside the house.  Most people would probably never even know I am blind because I am able to function in all the same ways as seeing dogs.  My foster mom actually thinks I listen better than her seeing dogs.  They ignore her sometimes, but as soon as I hear my mom I come running right away. My rear end and my tail never stop wiggling, they wiggle even when I eat.

I am turning into a really handsome man.  I have grown several inches taller and longer just in the last month.   Regular and nutritious meals have helped my coat to become slick and shinny.  I still need to put on some weight, but since I am growing so fast I have not been able to fill out.  I love people and I'm good with kids and large/small dogs.  I'm doing good with my potty training and will continue to improve.  I am a good boy in my crate, but I sometimes bark if I think the other dogs are having fun without me.  Please consider being my devoted forever family,  I will love you forever.

MaxBlind1.jpg  MaxBlind3.jpg

Max2.JPG

My name is Max and I am an extra special boy because I am blind in both eyes.  I am only 10 months old and my previous owners did not even know I was blind.  A nice lady found me and took me to the local shelter.  Since I had a rabies tag on the shelter employees were able to find my family who said they did not want me.  I am so happy to be in rescue now where I will be safe and well cared for.  I am really sweet and enjoy life in the same ways seeing boxers do.  Check back soon for an update on Max.

Ollie

Ollie  Ollie

My name is Ollie and I am a 2 year old boxer mix.  I was seized from my owner who had me and 100 or so other dogs.  Most of us had sarcoptic mange, which is very itchy and causes hair loss.  I was one of the lucky ones who made it into rescue. I am in week three of my treatment for the mange and have several more weeks before I will be ready for adoption.  I really hate it that I have to be separated from the other dogs in my house....I want to play with everybody so bad.  For now I need to stay isolated so none of the other dogs get what I have.  I am super sweet and enjoy playing with my foster mom outside.  I am good in my crate and only bark when the other dogs are playing without me.  Check back for an update on me really soon.

I am so happy to be out of the high kill shelter I was calling home.  I almost did not make it into rescue because there were no open foster homes.  My foster mom took me despite have several dogs already. I can't understand why I ended up in a shelter.  I am about 5 years old and such a good boy.  I am potty trained and I don't cause any trouble in my foster home.  I do have an old injury to my right eye but it doesn't seem to bother me, and I can still see out of it pretty good.  I've only been in my foster home for 3 days and my mom already lets me sleep in her bedroom because she trusts me not to chew anything or have any accidents.  I get along great with the other boxers and small dogs in the house.  I just like to sit and enjoy the sights and smells of life.  I makes no sense to me that I was abandoned by my family when I'm such an pleasant boy to have around the house.  My only hang-up is my eye which is purely cosmetic.  If you can look past my appearance, I will make a great pet for your family.

Bruno

Bruno  Bruno

Bruno

He will be 2 in August. He has a food allergy to corn, and is currently fed him Canidae Lamb and rice. The regular Canidae was too rich.  He has never lived with kids, but has done well when around any.  He gets very excited and likes to kiss and sometimes jumps. He does well with other dogs, but can be food aggressive and toy aggressive. Never with humans, only other dogs.  He is a very cuddly guy, just young and excitable. He does prefer women to men, at least at first meeting but does warm up quickly.  We believe he would do better in a home with older children and not toddlers because of his energy level.  With cats he likes to chase them, but hasn't ever hurt one. He walks well on a leash, but will bark at other dogs and people. He just likes to let you know that they are there.  He is neutered, totally up to date on shots, on heart worm preventative, ccrate trained, and knows some basic obedience.  He is also housetrained.

Rowdy

Rowdy is a big muscular boy and just that.....rowdy. He loves to run and get down and dirty. He gets along great with other dogs, both male and female, however, he does not like aggressive males. Rowdy is a fence jumper.....he stays within sight and does not take off, he just has to see what's on the other side and usually it is another dog to play with. We are working on this issue and have made progress but, this training will need to continue in his new home. This is the only bad habit we have found with Rowdy and despite the fence jumping, Rowdy is a sweet, loving guy looking for the perfect family. He would do very well in a home with older children and/or another dog. If you are looking for a best friend, you can find it in Rowdy!

Brutus 0408-Special Needs

7-20=08:  Brutus does everything the younger dogs do, he runs, jumps and has a great time playing with everyone.  His leg does not stop or hamper him in any way.

UPDATE 5-14-08:

I am loving my foster family and they love me too.  I am super sweet and just love being around my family.   Every morning when my foster mom is waking up, I put my head on her arm so she can give me a little love before she starts her day. Next, we go into her daughter's room to wake her up for school.   She loves it when I wake her up for school and I love the attention I get.  I am her favorite of all the dogs in the house and I know it.  I am potty trained and enjoy lounging around the house or laying in the grass. I am great with kids and large/small dogs.  I don't need to be crated since I behave like a perfect gentleman. Please take the time to meet me.  You will fall in love with my personality and never even notice my leg or my limp.  After all, it is not my fault my broken leg was never fixed and allowed to heal up crocked.  People have let me down in the past and I need a family who will love me for me.

My name is Brutus (3years) and I was picked up by animal control for repeatedly roaming loose in my neighborhood.  When my owners were contacted they said they did not want me.  As it turns out, that was a good thing because they did not take good care of me.  My right front leg had been broken and it was left to heal on its own.  Because of that, my leg is permanently crooked and I limp. I am able to get around okay but my leg cannot be fixed.  When my foster mom brought me home I was so dirty and my ears were full of ticks.  I felt so much better after my bath.  I am very friendly toward adults/kids and other dogs.  I like to play with people and other dogs but I'm also happy just relaxing on the floor.  I am crate trained and still working on my potty training.  Please consider giving me the only thing I have ever wanted, a family who loves me!

JOJO

    JoJo  JoJo

JoJo  jOjO

3-4-08  JoJo has been returned to rescue.  He will not be placed with young children.  He will need a strong owner who will not let him get away with anything.  His new owner needs to be familiar with boxers and training.  JoJo has a problem of realizing where he fits into the pack and will try to take over if he doesn't respect his owners as the pack leader.  He will need direction and any unruly teenager.   It would also be best that he is the only dog in his new household.

Meet JOJO. He is approximately 11-18 months old and is a beautiful dark brindle boy. It is a little hard to distinguish his real age because of the condition he came in.  He came into care very malnourished, full of parasites but has begun the road to recovery. He has been fully vetted, neutered and had a small tumor removed on his scrotem.  He is starting to feel better each and every day. He appears to be housetrained, crate trained, and is displaying good manners. He seems to get along fine with other dogs and even the kitty, but he is not feeling well right now so we will post whether this changes or not. We will post more about JOJO as we learn. Please check back on him.

Charlie

We have removed the special needs from Mr. Charlie.  He is fully healed from his leg and all he wants to do is PLAY!  He does very well with the girls and can rough house with the best of them.

Charlie1.JPG  Charlie3.JPG

Charlie4.JPG

Charlie2.JPGCharlie is a 3 yr old flashy male who is a special needs boy. He came into rescue from a high kill shelter as a stray. When vetted it was found that he had a broken leg that did not get the attention it needed and it healed wrong. The bones healed slightly off, but it is fully healed and he gets around great. Our vet does not want to rebreak and set since this had been healed for quite some time and there is a chance it may not set perfectly again. Charlie is housetrained, crate trained and has good house manners. He is a beautiful boy who will not be placed in a home with young children, toddlers, or puppies that only want to rough house. He gets along very well with female dogs and is still playful.

Tyson

Tyson  Tyson

Hi! My name is Tyson. Check out my video at http://www.petfinder.org. I'm the one with the brown collar. I just love playing with Bricks. We're both pretty ichy right now, as you can tell. Don't let my appearance discourage you. I'm going to be a beautiful boy once my fur grows back. It's not my fault I was discarded by my owner. My foster mom is taking great care of me. I feel better already! Tyson is a white check boy found as a stray running around with Bricks. We believe they might be brothers, but are unsure, as the owner(s) never came to claim them. They both have a severe case of Demodex, which is being treated. They will make a full recovery and then be neutered and caught up on shots. We will update their pictures as they recover. The boys are new to rescue, so we don't know much about them yet. We do know they are young, probably less than two years old and are full of energy. They would play with each other all day if you would let them. You can tell they will be beautiful boys when they are healed.

11-06-07 Updated Pics!

Clyde when he first came in.

ClydeVet1.jpg  ClydeVet2.jpg

9-4-07 Update:  These 2 pics were after his first bath.  He seems to be improving daily in health.  We have had the tumor removed and will be posting more pics during his recoup time.

Newbie.JPG

9-4-07  Clyde has had the large tumor removed and is doing very well.

8-28-07: Our vet Dr. Swagert named him Clyde after one of her older relatives which fits this 10 yr old senior boy perfectly.  We have found out he is Heartworm positive but at his age Dr. Swagert suggests not treating him for it.

This pitiful sweet tempered boy just came into the rescue program 8-26-07 from one of our KY shelters.  He is a medical mess as his shelter picture shows.  We would like to give him the chance to live a normal healthy life, but need your help to do so.  We have not given him a name yet but will shortly.  He will be seen today by our vet to determine what can be done and what treatment procedures to follow.  There is a possibility that he is also deaf.  We will be posting new pictures as he improves with time.

Adoption Donation: Not yet available - Pending vet treatment & surgery.

Hooch

Hooch4.jpg Hooch

Update: 7-3-08 Hooch would do best in a home with older children. He has a tendency to "rough house" a bit too eagerly. He just doesn't know his own strength, but boy does he love to play! Hooch is a hoot! (for lack of a better description) Hooch was found roaming around Nolin lake campground last year. A kind family found him and took him in for the weekend on their trip and then found him a foster home through this site. He has been with his foster mom for almost a year now and is still waiting for his home. He looks to be under two years old. Hooch is housetrained, crate trained and has good manners. He gets along well with other dogs but certainly prefers females. He loves everyone and would make a great companion. He is smaller in scale, walks well on lead and is just a lover.

Taz

Taz1.jpgTaz is a beautiful 1 year old flashy fawn boy.  He is sporting his natural ears and tail, he will be a big boy.  He is a very beautiful boy who is full of life, very social and loves to play.  He hasn't met a dog yet that he didn't like but they do have to love playing.  He is learning all about housetraining and crate training.  He is very loveable and eager to please, but would greatly benefit from an obedience class.  We are of the opinion that he may not like cats but gets along well with both male and female boxers at his foster home.

Barker3.jpg  Barker4.jpg

4-3-08 UPDATE:  Barker has decided he doesn't want a home with another male dog.  He does well with females and is a very playful guy.  He prefers to share his home with ladies of the furry type.

Barker is a beautiful white boxer boy of approximately 15-18 months old.  He loves being by your side and watching everything you do.  He came in from a high kill shelter covered in fleas and ticks.  He is fully vetted now and starting to look beautiful again.  He would do best as an only dog, but does love to play with the non-dominate females and the puppies.  He doesn't like dominate male or female dogs.  Cats are unknown as of yet.  He could use an obedience class to teach him a little better manners.  He appears to be housetrained and is etremely loving.  He rides fairly well in a car and is finding out about toys.

Gunner-Special Needs

Could use your help with medical care.

3-2-07 UPDATE:  Gunner is waiting for a new home to call his own.  He is filling out very nicely and doing wonderful on his new diet.  Please see updated pics.

Gunner10.jpg    Gunner9.jpg

1-30-07 UPDATE:  Gunner is ready for his new home.  He has turned into one very playful boy.  He loves his toys and wants nothing more than for you to play with him.  He is becoming one very good looking guy, he is filling out and his special diet certainly agrees with him.

1-5-07 UPDATE:  Gunner came home from the hospital 1-2-07 and is doing very well.  He has gotten his playfullness back and is loving every minute of laying on the couch.  He will be a great addition to his new family.

12-28-06 UPDATE:  Gunner was taken into the hospital today and after extensive testing he was determined to have Pancreatitis.  He is currently on IV's for the next few days and is being fed the same way.  He is doing well and should be able to come home 1-2-06.  He will have to be on a special diet for the rest of his life with no outside foods or treats being added to his diet.  The vet cannot be totally sure it will not reoccur, but it is very treatable and manageable.

Gunner4.jpg    Gunner5.jpg

Gunner3.jpg    Gunner6.jpg

We have Gunner listed as a senior male, we are unsure of his exact age because of the condition he is in. Malnutrition can age a dog well beyond their years. We estimate he is between 5-8. He is a very loveable boy who came from the same shelter as Harmony. Everyone worked very hard to get Gunner into rescue and transporting across the state. He is certainly enjoying food and a nice bed to lay his head. He has received his vaccines and is heartworm negative but being treated for several different parasites. He must obtain a healthier level before he can be neutered. We will post more as we learn, currently we are trying to get his hunger appeased.

Adoption Donation: None to the right home that will be able to control his pancreatitis and diet.
