Hello friends,

My name is Winston and I am a 1 year old American Bulldog/Boxer mix. I am different than most dogs who come into rescue because I am a little on the plump side.  My foster mom says I need to loose a few pounds, I'm not sure I like the sound of that.  I am a very playful boy, so my foster mom is going to see that I get plenty of exercise.  I had so much fun my first day at my new foster home...I got to splash and roll in a mud puddle....boy was that FUN!  Take a look at my pictures and check back soon for updates as my new family learns all about me.

DeDe - Deaf - Special Needs-Adopted

2-28-08  DeDe may be totally deaf, she is unable to even hear a horn blow just a few feet away from her.  She will be seeing the vet to make sure that it is nothing medically wrong with her ears and will begin learning sign.

2-13-08: DeDe has been found and returned to us.  She is doing great, just a little hungry.

DeDe is lost - she escaped her home during the tornado Tues night.  She was being fostered in Powderly KY.  If found please contact Sandie, 270-302-7920 or Cora (foster mom) 270-543-8599.

DeDe2.jpg DeDe4.jpg

DeDe is a SWEETY! Just look at that face!
DeDe came in to our home shy and timid and is certianly coming out of her shell now. She is perfect on a leash. She doesnt pull away from you unless she see's something she wants to catch! DeDe is Crate trained and we have no problem getting her to enter her crate. This little girl is not food aggressive. She gets along well with our other boxer Nellie. However she isn't fond of cats AT ALL. DeDe needs a home with lots of love because she doesn't even know what 'play' means. We are teaching her that play is good and she is starting to nose around the toys now(and Nellie is helping her along in the play department). DeDe appears as if she has never had someone take time with her and just love her. She craves attention and loves children. She is a smaller little girl boxer and certianly has a huge heart to make up for she smaller size. We are working on her manners and teaching her commands... as things progress we will send updates.

Ella-Adopted

Ella1.jpg   Ella2.jpg

Ella, is fawn and white with very errect natural ears. She also was a very wild child when she came from the pound and is also learning to walk on a lead and sit.  I do not think she has had many experiences with different people and environments and she become defensive when faced with new situations.  But if you talk to her and encourage her she will explore and gain confidience.
Again I think she needs a family with Adults/ or adults with older children since she loves to run and play and jump..and play ball.  I think her activity level would frighten younger children..and I'm not sure how she would react to screaming small kids. She also needs to be the only dog in the household with no kitties.

Buck-Adopted

Buck Buck

UPDATE 5-14-08:  I can't understand why no one wants me?  Not one person has even inquired about me and I have been in foster care since November.  I guess it is because I have my natural tail.  Only my foster mom knows how great a boy I am.  I am a gentle giant who is happy all the time.  I love to play with the other dogs in the house and I get along with everybody.  I sit perfectly in my crate and never make any noise.  I am very patient and wait my turn to go outside and to be feed.  If you can see it in your heart to love a boxer with his natural tail you will find a loyal and loving friend.

buck.jpg  buck2.jpg

UPDATE 3-31-08:

Buck is doing so good with his manners and he will continue to get better.  When Buck first came into rescue his was very wild acting and had very inappropriate social skills.  I often compared his presence in my house to a bull in a china shop.  Buck is truly a good hearted dog and means no one or other dogs any harm.  He loves to wrestle and play toys outside with the other boxers.  It is taking Buck a little longer to be fully housebroke, but I have no doubt he will get there...he almost is now.  He is perfect in his crate and never barks or cries, even if the other dogs are barking.  He is great with kids of all ages and can definitely tolerate their roughness. He enjoys playing with his human family, relaxing in the spring air, and chewing big rawhide bones.  Buck is more than ready to find his forever home.

JoeBoxer1.jpg  JoeBoxer2.jpg

joe.JPG  joe3.JPG

joe4.JPG12-20-07 Update:
Bucks manners have greatly improved in the last two weeks, and I have no doubt he will continue to make improvements.  He is very eager to please and is ashamed when he gets scolded.  Buck will also continue to work on his potty training which is also getting better.  He loves to play and roam around in the yard by himself or with his dog friends.  He is good with all dogs large and small.  Buck is current on all his vaccinations and was recently neutered, he is ready for his forever home.
This very handson guy is our latest addition to the rescue, we have changed his name to Buck.  He is 1-2 years old and was picked up as a stray.  He is a sweet boy but needs to work on his basic obedience and potty training.  He is crate trained, does well with other dogs, and likes kids. He will be going to the vet next week to be neutered and will be ready for adoption shortly.  Check back soon for updates.

Zoe

My name is Zoe, hopefully I will grow into my new name. I am a beautiful 10 week old deaf girl so will be listed as a special needs. I am crate trained and working on my housetraining. My foster mom has started me on my hand signals and says I am a quick study. Everyone seems to think that I am extremely smart for one so young and given the circumstances of my surrender. You see I was going to be euthanized because I am deaf by my breeder and the rescue ladies could not see that happening. I am to loveable and quite the little lady despite my deafness. Someday when I grow up, I will be a beautiful, intelligent girl who my new family will be proud to have in their family.

Hey there, I am called Bennett. I am very new to the rescue program and still learning my way around. I get along well with the dogs and cats in my new home. I am crate trained and so far I haven't done anything inside I wasn't suppose to. So I may be housetrained also. I love being indoors with my new foster family, they treated me well at the shelter, but as the old saying goes, "Theres no place like home." The rescue ladies will be posting more about me as they learn. Check back often for new updates and some better pictures.

Pepper2.jpg  Pepper5.jpg

Pepper1.jpgGot yeah.  Bet your thinking thats not a boxer, well your right.  I am Pepper or Pepe for short.  I am a 2 year old purebred toy poodle who was turned in by my previous owners at a very high kill shelter for they could not take care of me.  I do fine uncrated for so far I haven't destroyed anything when left out alone or with one of my boxer buddies.  I am fully housetrained and get along very well with the other boxer kids here.  I am a real joy to have around.  I love to play and snuggle, I also really like sleeping in the bed with you or being in your lap when you are resting.  I am so glad the rescue lady got me out of that place, I was so scared I couldn't stop shaking for awhile.  I am fully vetted now and waiting on my new family, one that will not dump me at the animal shelter ever again.  Would you be the love of my life?  Sincerely Pepe

 Spike-Adopted

Letter from new dad:
Sandie,
Thanks for the letter. I was going to write you over the weekend, but you beat me to it.  Jean and I are blown away at Spike's behavior. He has no accidents inside. He may be the best dog that we have ever had. He lounges around on his new bed and nothing fazes him.
He now is adjusted to this is his home and he is starting to bark at people as they walk by on the street, especially if they are wlking their dog. He is also barking to let us know when someone is at the back door.
Jean stated this morning that we may need to name him Duckie, I said why? She said that he was like a duck and followed her all over the house as she was preparing to go to work. Every morning around 6:30, he comes into our bedroom and nuzzles or kisses me to wake me up.
He really dosen't do all the barking to be let in as I thought that he might do after you told me this. But, he come to the kitchen window and whine or yip a little. I am totally amazed by him. He is almost to good to be true.
I have started his education to his boundries in the unfenced lawn areas. He understands sit, stay, and shake. He doesn't especially like to lay down when you tell him, it's like I hear you but I will do when I am ready type of attitude. after maybe 3-4 minutes he lies down on his own and then everything is fine.
We catch our selves baby talking him, I especially talk to im like a little boy, telling him that Daddy will take him out. It sounds foolish, but he has a way about him that we already love the pieces out of him. I wish I knew his background such as ancestry. He has good stock and he also is sure of himself and that I feel makes him such a mild mannered individual. We appreciate your interest and will always look forward to your letters at anytime. Next week, I will take some pictures of Sarah with Spike before we have to take her to D.C. for school.    Jerry

UPDATE 3-31-08:

After about 2 months in rescue, Spike is really turning into a great dog.  Spike has more personality than any boxer I have ever known.  He is a big clown and lives for fun....Spike will keep you very active.  In the beginning he was very possessive of all toys, bones, food, etc....he often got into disagreements with the other boxers over his possessions.  He also did not really know how to play with the other dogs, who often got mad at him.  In the last two weeks he has made drastic changes.  It is no longer his mission to steal everything from the other dogs, and his is able to play and wrestle with the other dogs without anyone's tempers getting out of hand.  He will do fine in a home with or without other dogs, but he will require lots of play time and mental stimulation.  Spike is great with kids of all ages and is willing to tolerate their roughness.  Spike is also fully housebroke, but he still urinates in his crate on a inconsistent basis.  After consulting with a behaviorist, it was determined that Spike has some crate anxiety which can be easily overcome with consistent behavior modification.  It is likely that Spike will get over his crate anxiety with when the help of his foster family and continuing with his adoptive family.

spike2.JPG  spike3.JPG

My name is spike and I am a very handsome young man of just over a year old. I was seized from my owner who left me chained outside in the cold with no food, water or shelter. I am so thankful for the person who called and reported what was happening to me. I am safe and warm now in my foster home and trying to adjust to a new life. I know how to sit and shake and my foster mom thinks there is a good chance I am already house trained. I am slowly being introduced to my foster brothers and sisters so we will be learning how I get along wtih other dogs. My vetting is all current and I am ready to find my forever home. Thanks for looking at me and check back soon for updates. Love, Spike

Sara-Adopted

Sara1.jpg  Sara2.jpg

Sara is a beautiful cropped and docked flashy fawn girl.  She is a quit girl..doesn't bark much when every one else gets to barking.  She likes to play, she is a little over weight, but I have not gotten to increase her exercise, I think that would help her a lot.  She plays nicely with our 6yr old granddaughter. She is wonderful on lead, housetrained and just a perfect.

Jynx-Adopted

Jynx1.jpg

Hey, I am Jynx.  I think I have one of the cutest names to match my beautiful self.  I am about 9 months old and just a little dream girl.  I am housetrained and crate trained but do need to be let out a little more often.  I get along well with other dogs and love to play.  What puppy don't?  I can't tell you about the cats for my previous owner was allergic to them.  I have been fully vetted and ready for my new family.  What are you waiting for?  It's me Jynx.

Honey-Adopted

honey208.jpg

UPDATE 3-31-08:  Honey is a great girl of about 8 years.  She is very healthy and still very active.  She prefers to play with people over other dogs but she gets along good with other large and small dogs.  She does not need to be crated when you leave the house or at night.... she if fully housebroke and would never chew anything.  Her favorite thing to do is be right by your side.  She does not care what she is doing as long as she can be with her human companions.  She is great with kids of all ages and makes friends with strangers immediately. All Honey wants is to love you and to be loved.  Honey looks sad in pictures, but I assure you she is not sad.  She greets me every morning with her ears held high and her rear end wiggling.  Honey may not be your first choice because she is older or as flashy as the better bred boxers.  What Honey lacks in looks, she more than makes up for in personality and temperament.  Please consider giving Honey the only thing she has ever wanted, her loving and devoted forever home.

Honey1.jpg

12-20-07 Update:

Honey is a senior brindle girl. It is hard to tell from the pictures that Honey is very underweight, but she is eating 3 meals a day trying and gain weight.  Honey appears to be housebroke, but a few accidents are not out of the question.  She is great with kids, large/small dogs male and female.  She is still a very active girl and likes to play with people and other dogs.  She knows sit/shake and has good house manners.  Honey does not care for her crate and will cry or bark when she first gets in.  She will be working a little more on her crate training.  Once she is in her forever home, Honey should be okay to stay out of a crate.  She will do good in a home with other dogs or as a only pet.  Honey is current on all her vaccinations and was recently spayed, she is ready for her forever home.

Honey will be coming into our program the week of 12-10-07 and we will be posting more about this adult beauty shortly.  She will be fully up to date on all shots, heartworm tested, and spayed prior to adoption.  Please check back on this girl as we update her bio.

2-25-08 Update:   Titus is very smart....he knows sit, down, shake, out, and no.  He is crate trained and is mostly house-trained.  He gets along great with other dogs and would do very well with another fur sibling.  He also loves to play fetch...he will play for hours, chasing a tennis ball and bringing it back to you and would love to be in a home with older children that would play ball or frisbee with him.  Titus is very affectionate, sweet and an all around great dog.  He is neutered, UTD on his vetting and ready for his new home.

Titus is new to the rescue program.  He was surrendered to the local animal shelter because a new baby came into the family.  He is approximately 1.5 years old.  We will be posting more on Titus as we learn all about him.

dane.JPG  dane2.JPG

Dane is a 9 month old fawn boy who was pulled from a shelter the day before he was to be euthanized.  He is too cute and all puppy still!  He will be working on his house manners and basic obedience.  Dane is good with kids and gets along with other large dogs.  His new best buddy is Buck who is pictured with him above. Dane does NOT like CATS, he will kill them.  We have not tested him with small dogs due to his hate for cats.  Once we get to know him more we will test Dane with small dogs.  He appears to be housebroke and is working on his crate training.  Dane certainly is not a bad boy, just a puppy in need of training.  He will do good in a home with other dogs or as an only pet.  Dane is current on all his vaccinations and was recently neutered, he is ready for his forever home.

Shorty-Adopted

This is one happy boy.
DSC00879.JPG  Shorty2.jpg
shrty.jpg
9-10-07 Update from foster family:

Shorty is coming into his little personality like a champ.  He has been playing great with other boxers under supervision, because gets a little defensive when feeling tire or overwhelmed.  His small frame allows him to truly be a lap dog and he is happiest when he is laying with some part of his body on you.  He goes in his crate willingly and is coming along on his leash training.  Shorty responds quickly to sit and down and he is working very hard to learn other voice commands.  I think Shorty is more in the 3 year old range because is ready to play when you are, but is also just as content with a bunch of cuddle time.

Meet Shorty the newest foster addition to our family. He is a beautiful brindle color with natural ears and docked tail, with an awfully endearing underbite and as his name suggest he is quite small. This little guy was most certainly kept outside because he very curious about all things indoors. He spent his first week crated during the day with no potty incidents. We are estimating him to be around 3 years old. He has been following his foster parents around with each step. He gets along fine with the our terrier but the other big dogs seem to bring out some fearful aggressive behavior. Shorty has started to show little bursts of playfulness, but is still unsure about what toys are about and how to walk on a leash. Mr. Shorty has a whole lot of love to give and will want to be at your side as much as possible.

9-15-07 Update:  Tyson is fully house trained and crate trained.  He gets along very well with other dogs, he doesn't like motors running of any kind and will try to get a broom or mop from you.  This is one very loveable boy.

Tyson was an owner surrender at a local kill shelter because he DOESN'T LIKE CATS.  Tyson is a light brindle boy who is cropped and docked.  He is a very sweet, playful 18 month old.  He will be a beautiful boy when he regrows his hair.  He has had a skin scraping done and there was no mange present.  He may possibly be allergic to something where he was being housed outside, malnutrition, or a number of other things.  He will begin working on his housetraining and crate training.  He will start his vetting very shortly.

Molly Brindle-Adopted

MollyBrindle2.jpg  MollyBrindle3.jpg

MollyBrindle1.jpgMolly is a sweetheart who was just in the wrong place at the wrong time, but I'm grateful that I found her. She is wonderful with my children. That tail never stops wagging and she endures pulling and patting like a patient mother. (I have a one year old who loves to test patience! lol) Molly is 18 months to 2 years old and at last weigh in was 39.4 pounds. She was hit by a car going 40 MPH and she's VERY lucky to have only sustained a few scrapes on her hind end. She was 34.4 pounds when I weighed her the day after her accident. She has been spayed and had a full check up with the vet, to include her rabies, parvo and distemper, and even a deworming. She tested negative for parvo and her fecal test only revealed hookworms which were easy enough to treat. Even with her scrapes on her bottom and the obvious pain it caused her to have someone touch her there, she never showed any aggression towards me or any of the staff at the vet clinic. I think she would do best as an only pet because she has some food aggression and doesn't interact well with my other dogs, but with the right home and some lovin I think she could fit in anywhere.

Lady07_5.jpg  Lady07_4.jpg

12-7-07  This girl is fabulous.  She is perfectly housetrained, crate trained, good manners.  Loves attention and gives delightful kisses.  She is still very playful and when you return home from work bends herself double dancing for you.  She is very good with her boxer buddies and would also work very well with small male dogs.  We have not been able to cat test her.  She would be great with children of all ages.  Her vetting will be completed shortly.  We are having a mammory tumor removed and tested for heartworm as soon as she can be scheduled.

Lady just came into rescue 11-30-07 and seems absolutey wonderful.  She is a beautiful mahogany fawn lady of 6 years.  She appears to be well housetrained, very good manners, very scared her first night after her shelter ordeal and coming into a household with strangers and other dogs.  After a good nights sleep and a chance to relax she gave the most wonderful boxer beans.  We will post more on Miss Lady as we learn.

UPDATE 4-2-07: Nellie's foster mom discovered something very unique about little Miss Nellie while her son was skate boarding.  Nellie walked over and climbed on and proceeded to push off.  We learn something new everyday about our foster kids.

Nellie is Deaf.  She was left behind in a housing complex when the owner moved away and was found by the maintenance crew when they entered the apartment.  She is very young, less than a year, and quite beautiful.  We will see where she is on her sign language (if any), housetraining, manners, and she will begin crate training.  At the moment she appears food aggressive, this may go away with regular feedings and her realizing she will get her share. This food issue will have to be a wait and see if there is improvement.  More will be posted as we learn.
